Small Modular Reactor Applications

An OECD-NEA NEST and SMART-Canada Event

Virtual: May 31-June 17 | In-person: June 24-28

For 2024, the NEST and SMART programs are combining to offer a joint summer workshop. Programming includes weekly virtual lectures and mentor-led group sessions. The workshop concludes with an immersive in-person week featuring lectures, hands-on training at the McMaster Nuclear Reactor, and technical tours.

In this five-week workshop, students will develop deployment plans for small or micro-reactors. With support from nuclear experts, participants will evaluate factors such as industry needs, community engagement, and grid connectivity. The workshop culminates with a pitch competition where teams present their plans.

Nuclear Education, Skills and Technology (NEST) Framework

The OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) launched the Nuclear Education, Skills and Technology (NEST) Framework in partnership with its member countries to help address important gaps in nuclear skills capacity building, knowledge transfer and technical innovation in an international context. . The NEST Framework is developed as a NEA joint undertaking gathering private and public organisations from interested countries (not-necessarily NEA member countries).
